Mary Alice McNeill Tolle, 94, of Cape Coral, Florida, died at home at 7:20pm Monday, November 25, 2013, after a decline in health over the past few months.

She was born in Tallahassee, Florida, June 12, 1919, to Louise Medina Proctor McNeill (1894-1982) and Malcolm Collins McNeill, Sr. (1891-1980).

Her family roots go deep in Tallahassee, where she grew up and where she still has many Proctor/Mickler/McNeill relatives. She was proud that her ancestry included several Mayflower Pilgrims.

After graduating in 1941 from the Florida State College for Women (now Florida State University) she taught junior and senior high school classes for several years in Fort Lauderdale, Pensacola, Gainesville, and Tallahassee, Florida.

She was a very talented china painter, and continued painting until a year or two ago. She had a number of pieces of her porcelain art pictured in The China Painter and The Porcelain Artist and one piece chosen to be displayed for a year in the World Organization of China Painters' Museum in Oklahoma City.

Before moving to Cape Coral, she lived for over 30 years in Carbondale, Illinois, where she was active in various community groups.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; by a sister, Theresa McNeill Turner; by a brother, Malcolm McNeill, Jr.; and by her husband, Donald James Tolle (1918-1993), whom she married July 24, 1945.

A funeral service will be held in Tallahassee at 10:00am on Saturday, December 28, graveside at Oakland Cemetery.

Although she did not herself have Alzheimer's disease, she knew several people who did, and she suggested that memorial gifts may be made to any Alzheimer's charity.
